The Matter of the True Healing Journey
Healing is a process of addressing wounds (pain). Ensuring no infection (more pain through unacknowledgment) because that could be fatal and dressing the wound so it is clean (you know what is inside) and it can go through time by getting better.
What I described is literal for physical wounds, but it is true for emotional and mental wounds too. Because healing entails delving into your pain, it is important to have a Comforter. And as you’re in pain yet comforted, the Comforter will be ensuring that you are healing, for He is the Healer as well.
Healing is done the same way because in all situations healing means the same thing. What you do in your healing process may look different between emotional and physical pain, but it is the same principles being practiced.
The principles are, emotionally and mentally, being in the midst of the pain point, so you know what’s inside and what needs to heal. This will be introspection, which will create an environment of healing the pain point(s), and which will ensure that metaphorically the wound is clean, in that, there will be emotional and mental cleaning of the wound by unraveling every truth about the pain.
Once it is certain that there is no dirt in the wound, that is, no detail left out, the wound/pain is known for exactly what it is and therefore a healing environment can be attached to that pain point.
Emotional Healing is Key
Psychologists say for an emotion to not linger or become more painful it must be felt so it can go away.
Running away from feeling emotions, no matter how uncomfortable, keeps you stuck with that emotion, and that emotion can brew into something way worse than the initial distress.
Talking about moments and feelings that were traumatic or hurtful from the past or from anytime is being in the midst of the pain. It is finding out what it is exactly that hurts, so an environment for healing is ensured as the wound is sought out.
Now these words cannot tell you how painful it will be when you are in the midst of your pain. How it will feel like regression instead of progression. But remember that the harder it hurts, the more it needs to be felt because all that hurt would have remained inside and dis-ease is disease.
So, feeling the pain is the only way to start your healing because feeling it means you are processing the pain (out of you).
To paraphrase a wise woman who once said: We try by all means to keep vomit in even when we know we would feel better if we vomited it out, and that is how we treat our emotions. Better out than in, just like vomit.
Process your emotions by feeling them so they have no reason to stay. Knowing also that emotions attach to negative beliefs and those beliefs are firmed by the strong emotions, whilst these negative beliefs will inspire negative trains of thought, according to Dr Anita Phillips, a therapist.
Healing your emotional self by feeling your emotions is also healing the negative beliefs that birthed negative thoughts, thus healing mentally (trains of thought) is the end result of processing your (negative) emotions.
Out with the Old, in with the New
As you are processing (negative) emotions tied to your traumas and pains, letting them out, it is essential to replace those negative emotions with positive emotions. When the flesh has an open wound, the growth of collagen is what makes the edges of the wound shrink.
For emotional and mental pain, this collagen can be (self) compassion, inner-gentleness, inner-kindness, inner-patience, inner-peace, inner-love, and inner-acceptance. So fill your pain point and trauma point, after spending appropriate time processing the (emotional) pain, with goodness that is like collagen in the name of healing.
Healing Takes Time, Patience and Compassion
Another thing healing needs is time. Once you know exactly why and what you need healing from, all you need is time as the healing is in motion. Healing starts because you have proclaimed pain and thus a need for healing.
Be aware also that the importance of knowing why you are in pain (what caused the pain) is, as Viktor Frankl once said: Suffering seizes to be suffering the moment you find out why you suffered. That is, name the pain and state why it was painful.
Healing is like being your own therapist. You state things not because they are obvious and known, but because you are processing them. You are processing the trauma, so it can cease to be traumatic.
Healing will not deny you itself for it is from the light and goodness of Almighty God. If you are not in an intimate relationship with God, I hope this will be the beginning of it. Healing will require patience and compassion for oneself, for healing happens with time. The further time goes, the deeper healing is progressing, especially because you will know exactly what the pain is and why it is pain.
Can you imagine a wound healing with a piece of glass and soil in it? That healing would soon prove itself to be false, proving itself to remain a pain. That is why it is important to ensure true healing by first addressing the wound. Making sure everything about the pain or wound is known, and therefore making sure an environment for healing is achieved.
And of course, just as there are doctors for specific parts of the body, there are doctors practicing medicine specifically for the emotional and mental entity. If it is your privilege to have their help, have it. And if it is not your privilege to see them, make it your mission to be an active participant in your healing journey, as that is exactly what I’m teaching you here.
Keep in mind that, even for people seeing specialist doctors, it is still in their own hands as patients to decide to heal, to let the doctors in, to fully participate and practice.
And what psychologists and therapists practice is information that can be researched. As I walked with God, that is how I achieved my own healing, and now I’m teaching you.
You can do more research by searching “cognitive therapy practices” and learn about CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) techniques that are practiced by practicing psychologists.
Search “more techniques like CBT”, of course they will tell you what I have taught you but perhaps with more techniques, and practice the knowledge you will further acquire according to what you discern is right for you.
I encourage more research because it’ll be a practice declaring you want to heal. Just how diving into your pain will be a declaration that you want to heal because you will be admitting to the existence of pain.
So, decide to want to heal, and heal yourself. It is in your very nature to heal yourself. You see it with the daily cuts and bruises. How they are here today and gone tomorrow. You are already a healer. Heal.
