What Is Your Christmas Spirit? Making Holidays Positive

When the season of Christmas is upon us, what is the spirit of Christmas? The truth is the spirit of Christmas is different for everyone because of perception. Your past Christmases make up your own personal Christmas spirit.

You may think of your current Christmas spirit as good or bad which would mean that that would be the reality of all your past Christmases as long as you have not intentionally built up a Christmas spirit.

An awareness of your past Christmases can free you from feeling bad because the world is telling you to be joyful when you are simply not joyful, or worse. Maybe this very time is a source of sorrow because of what past Christmases have been, making up the energy or spirit of Christmas based on those sorrowful moments.

What is the Spirit of Your Christmas Season?

What have your past Christmases felt like in the past? Are you aware of how you feel about Christmas? I have realized that I do not like Christmas time because I never felt good during Christmas in at least a decade’s worth of Christmases. I was forced to either be at church, meaning away from my partying friends, or forced to be with my family without other options.

It is not that I hated doing these things, I just hated that I was not given a choice. I was not free. So later on when I only somewhat had the freedom because, of course, Christmas was still a time to for sure be with family, I still had those resentful feelings towards Christmas.

Another reason for my negative Christmas spirit could be that my dearly beloved late grandfather’s birthday was on Christmas, so during my childhood, we celebrated Christmas and his birthday, and they were the most special Christmases ever, perhaps also why the rest would pale tremendously in comparison.

And since I am only now trying to uncover my resentment for Christmas, I am learning to heal and form a new relationship with Christmas and a new Christmas spirit. Doing so by processing all past emotions and events that would happen during this season in the past.

What is Your Christmas History?

So, what is your Christmas story? In retrospect, what feelings have been shaped by past Christmases that have conjured up your present Christmas spirit, negative or positive? And if negative, are you ready to process those feelings to heal and have a new Christmas spirit birthed?

Perhaps your present Christmas spirit is not negative, but it is neither positive as well but rather so neutral or nonexistent or meh. It will take intentional work from you to develop a positive Christmas spirit for your annual benefit and a good feel.

“Well, I Don’t Celebrate Christmas.”

Perhaps you do not celebrate Christmas because you have your own traditions. I think this would be most relevant to you because society at large then seems to say to you, we do not care that you do not celebrate Christmas and therefore feel and be in our Christmas energy.

I think you would truly, more than anyone, need to develop a positive Christmas spirit, not in the sense of you celebrating it but in the sense of tolerating it in peace. I imagine being made bitter and resentful annually by this holiday season can have troublesome effects on your well-being.

Never stressing enough that as an annual event, you cannot afford to give away your peace and joy for the sake of manifesting the contempt of being force-fed an experience you do not wish to partake in, annually without fail like clockwork. It is not worth your health.

Not worth your emotional, mental, spiritual, or physical health. So, build a spirit of Christmas in the sense of accommodating and tolerating and enjoying the time of year, not because you are celebrating the holiday but because you are celebrating a time you are alive and approaching a new year and establishing this practice for the sake of your health and inner peace.

We can all therefore benefit from intentionally building a Christmas spirit that is positive and good. Even if you already have a positive Christmas spirit, if it was not from intention then it is there from the mercy of past Christmases. It is there by chance, if I may.

Meaning as you continue having Christmases, you may not know what they may continue to be, so it is wise to not have a Christmas spirit birthed by chance but to have one birthed by true inner desire and intention.

In naivety this implies that, God forbid, if your Christmas season turns sour at some point, you can have the blanket of your positive Christmas spirit to keep you warm and feeling safe and comforted. That your Christmas spirit may not be doomed but might be a pillar of strength and hope and good remembrance.

What you build intentionally and with purpose is built on solid ground, and what is built on solid ground is built on a good foundation that has a good chance to withstand storms.
